Public transport in Frankfurt am Main – barrier-free and inviting

19. July 2023

In autumn 2021 PB CONSULT together with our partner spiekermann ingenieure was commissioned by Stadtwerke Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main mbH (VGF) with the planning of barrier-free reconstruction measures for a total of 30 tram stops and light rail stations including adjacent road space and zebra crossings. Not only logistically, but also in terms of planning, this was a challenge for our infrastructure department. However, our expertise in this special field – we have already provided plenty of barrier-free stops here in Nuremberg, for example – did not make us shy away from this challenge. Since we were commissioned, we have made such good progress with the planning that the VGF has commissioned us with further accompanying measures. The picture above shows one of the successful planning examples of a completely redesigned tram stop. The Habsburger-/Wittelsbacherallee station, which is currently under construction, will certainly make a striking new appearance in Frankfurt’s cityscape after the conversion measures. Barrier-free and inviting – this is how public transport should actually be in every city.
