City logistics Neu-Ulm – Potential analysis for cross-delivery parcel stations completed

17. June 2021

Traffic and emission loads are increasing more and more in increasingly dense urban areas and thus also pose new challenges for the city of Neu-Ulm. One of the factors contributing to this development is commercial traffic in the CEP sector (courier, express and parcel logistics). New logistics concepts are intended to relieve the urban area and handle delivery traffic more efficiently. Parcel stations across delivery services, so-called micro-hubs, can make a decisive contribution to this.

Within the framework of the mobility sub-concept, PB CONSULT together with the consortium partner ULS (Urban Logistics Solutions) investigated the logistical potentials as well as the acceptance for the implementation of such a parcel station for the Neu-Ulm district office. In the process, the location was evaluated on the basis of economic geographic analyses and the acceptance of potential users was determined via a broad-based online survey. In addition to the assessment of the potential for the project under study, recommendations for action were also outlined for the introduction of a modular system that would allow for a demand-oriented expansion of the offer.
