No zone research, no ticket search, no card buying – this is the goal pursued by the VGN with its pilot project “egon”.
The app only needs to be activated before the journey, egon then automatically recognizes the vehicle change and the end of the journey. The price for a trip is based on a basic daily price and the kilometers traveled. These are calculated from the linear distances of the individual sections between the start, transfer stops and destination. For billing, all journeys with egon within 31 days are summed up, clearly displayed and conveniently debited at the end. The more trips are made within the billing period, the higher the discount (all information can also be found here in the explanatory video).
On November 24th, 2022, the 2-year pilot phase started after a long preparation and test phase. There was a press conference on the go-live with Bavaria’s Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Construction and Transport), District Administrator Matthias Dießl (Chairman of the ZVGN and Deputy Chairman of the Basic Contract Committee), Tim Dahlmann-Resing (CEO Technology and Market). VAG, board spokesman VAG and deputy chairman of the shareholders’ meeting of VGN), Torsten Heider (head of revenue management DB Regio and chairman of the shareholders’ meeting of VGN) Anja Steidl (managing director of VGN) and Mr. Klaus Dechamps (head of markets and sales VGN).
We are proud of the successful start of egon, for which we have been responsible for project management since the beginning of the year. Together with our project partners DB Vertrieb, DB Regio, Fraunhofer IVI, WVI, ercas and Roccas, we are looking forward to the course of the pilot project.
If we have aroused your interest – the VGN is still looking for 20,000 test customers. More information at www.vgn.de/egon
