Mobility concept for the Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg

18. July 2024

We have been developing a mobility concept for the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) since the end of last year. Starting with a detailed analysis of the accessibility of the various locations in Nuremberg, Fuerth and Erlangen, we then conducted a mobility survey on the current mobility behaviour of employees and students. From the results obtained, we were able to draw up both a greenhouse gas balance for the mobility sector for the year 2023 and the potential savings that could be made by shifting from cars to eco-mobility. In a workshop we held on 2 July 2024 with internal and external stakeholders, initial concrete measures were developed at five themed tables. The key levers for implementing a mobility concept included the following:

Mobilitätskonzept FAU Workshop
  1. Job ticket for FAU employees (40% of employees cited this measure in the mobility survey as motivation to switch to public transport)
  2. Promotion of e-mobility at the FAU sites
  3. Better public transport connections and frequency at FAU campuses (e.g. optimised bus routes and the introduction of express buses)
  4. Expansion of VAG bike stations and bicycle parking facilities at FAU campuses
  5. Communication of the planned mobility offers via target group-orientated channels
