Planning Services StUB Erlangen (LRT)

PB Consult has been involved in the various planning phases of the Stadt-Umland-Bahn (StUB) tram project since 2017.

The new route will connect the cities of Nuremberg, Erlangen and Herzogenaurach with a tram line. Among other things, very important employers and the universities in the region will benefit from this in terms of commuter traffic. After the citizens of Erlangen voted in favour of the construction of the StUB in a referendum on 9 June 2024, the project is now entering the concrete implementation phase.

Together with our project partners from Obermeyer and Dorsch Gruppe GRE, the assignment included the basic and preliminary planning as well as variant analyses and a regional planning procedure in a wide variety of constellations. PB Consult was responsible for the development of technical planning principles based on the conditions of the Nuremberg tram network, the conceptual evaluation and selection of route variants as well as the planning of the stops for service phases 1-4.

The variants were evaluated using the FAR method, taking into account the target groups of passengers, operators, local authorities and the general public. As a basis for the regional planning procedure, the most suitable variants were analysed in interaction with motorised private transport in traffic models and the performance capacities of the relevant junctions were examined.

In addition, an extension of the StUB network from Erlangen eastwards to the districts of Erlangen-Höchstadt and Forchheim with a connection to the Gräfenberg railway is being planned. Together with the project partners (Obermeyer and Mailänder Consult), we are currently analysing various route options and preparing the alignment for service phases 1 and 2.
