Adaption Metro Workshop Nuremberg

The new articulated trains (VAG G1 series) are gradually replacing the over 40-year-old DT1 series trains of the Nuremberg underground. The articulated trains are roughly twice as long as the existing double-carriage trains. The non-separable long train configuration required the conversion and adaptation of the existing underground railway workshop in Kafkastrasse in Nuremberg.

In addition to structural adaptations (e.g. track pits, roof work stands, etc.), the conversion of plant equipment (washing system, underfloor lathe, etc.) and the conversion of the existing track systems were also carried out.

PB Consult was commissioned by VAG Nürnberg, represented by N-ERGIE Immobilien GmbH, for the project management as well as for the operational coordination.

The particular challenge of this project was to manage the construction work and coordinate it with the operational processes in the underground railway workshop. Detailed construction scheduling was therefore the basis for a smooth construction process.

The conversion and adaptation of the underground railway workshop was completed in time for the first delivery of the new underground trains.
