A comfortable and safe cycle route – the Metropolradweg – is to be created along the Regnitz Valley corridor, which is densely populated and has a high volume of commuters, linking the cities of Erlangen and Bamberg over a distance of around 65 km. The new cycle route is to run alongside or in the immediate vicinity of the Main-Danube Canal, connecting the neighbouring districts and municipalities. Around 54 km are to be built to the RVR standard (priority cycle route) and a further 11 km to the ERA standard (recommendations for cycle infrastructure); a minimal proportion (< 0.5%) is not subject to any standards. To implement the project, 16 cooperation partners (3 districts and 13 municipalities with a total population of around 934,000) have joined forces to form an inter-municipal alliance.
Together with our project partner, Ramboll Deutschland GmbH, PB Consult GmbH was commissioned to carry out the design and planning work required for planning permission.
